CRITERIA: Doorways and windows establish the design, the symmetry, and the overall scale of a building. Applying storm doors and storm windows on them can compromise the style and charm.

Doorframes with pediments and pilasters add value to the doorway design. Dentalwork, store-bought moldings, and transom windows, top this one off with a Georgian influence.

This doorway design is Federal and quite straight forward. The storm door is battened with an application of rails and styles to match the inside door.

The storm door on the left is a copy of the previous door which was thinner and rotted out. The thicker frame accepts Thermo-pane windows which can be replaced with screens in the summer. Detail of Thermo-pane inserts.
